How good were those guys? Before my time and only seen clips but always been fascinated by The Academy with some of those you mention like Alison, Bond and Cantwell. So many ended up as good managers or coaches. It's quite baffling how this Club didn't win more. Probably a case of always having 6 or 7 top quality and the rest being crap!

The hardest man I've seen in a West Ham shirt and would stroll into any hard man eleven is Andy Malcolm 321 appearances 1953-61 ( 4 goals) those old enough will know.
Also between the sticks, Lawrie Leslie bravest of the brave only played 60 odd games
Other players from the days when hard meant hard
John Bond
Noel Cantwell
John Dick
Malcolm Alison
These were tough in the true sense not the faux hardness of more recent years and they could also play as well.

It was Tal Ben Haim putting Bebe into the stand. His career never really recovered after that.

Incredible isn't it, over 100 years as a football Club and we have probably had around 20 people who could put a foot in! West Ham a soft touch?!

Yeah Keith Robson would have been in but I never saw him live. Same with Sir Geoff Hurst. Barrel chested and you had to be tough up front back then but again I never saw him play.
geoffpikey - Yeah see what you mean but I just never liked the bloke at all. Dicksy was a liability but made up for it in many ways with goals and assists, but I can't think of much Repka did that was positive!
